Tariq James, LPC
A practical, grounded approach to therapy
I help individuals, couples, and families understand patterns of conflict, anxiety, emotional shutdown, and disconnection, and work toward meaningful change.
Maybe the same argument keeps happening. Maybe you understand what is going wrong but still struggle to respond differently. Or perhaps you have been carrying things on your own for a long time. We can start with where you are.
My background
I’m a native Philadelphian and a Licensed Professional Counselor based in King of Prussia. I completed my undergraduate studies at Cheyney University and earned my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology in 2016.
After working across a range of treatment settings, I opened my private practice in 2022. My goal was to offer thoughtful, structured therapy that helps people use what they learn in everyday life.
What I help with
- Couples counseling for recurring conflict, disconnection, and defensive communication.
- Individual therapy for anxiety, emotional suppression, and feeling stuck.
- Family and relationship patterns that people want to understand and change.
Our Relationship Clinic also provides a place to explore relationship concerns whether you attend alone or with a partner.
What working with me is like
My style is honest, direct, and collaborative. I listen carefully, ask questions, offer perspective, and help you practice different responses to the situations that keep repeating.
We consider the context of your life, including culture, family, relationships, faith, and values. You help shape the goals and pace of our work. I bring structure, clinical perspective, and support, including respectful challenge when it may help.
Understanding why a pattern developed matters. Learning what you can do differently today matters, too.
